The Architect at COCOON is an integral member of the Architectural Design Department. The individual in this role is responsible for project design from survey through permit drawings. The Architect works closely with and reports directly to the Architectural Design Manager.

At COCOON we have engineered a simple step-by-step approach for our customers to achieve their dreams of home renovations. Stage #1 is Space Planning. Stage #2 is Design Selections where the customer relies on our team of designers to help them select the specific hard finishes for their renovations. These often include Cabinetry, Countertops, Tile, Flooring, Hardware, Plumbing and Lighting Fixtures, Paint Colors, etc. Currently, we do not include design services for furniture, décor, window coverings, artwork, etc.; only the specific items necessary for the renovations COCOON is performing.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Design & Drafting
    • Conduct existing conditions survey
    • Create 3D model in Chief Architect based on survey findings
    • Huddle with Project Advisor & Architectural Design Manager to discuss design possibilities
    • Develop (3) price-scaled layouts to meet the customer’s goals
    • Expand the level of detail for the approved plan
    • Complete the initial structural assessment of the design
    • Evaluate the need for consultation with an outside structural engineering partner
    • Prepare wood framing plans/mark-ups for in-house engineering
    • Organize sheet layouts for estimating and permit drawing sets
    • Assist customer with window, door, and other exterior finishes
    • Post selections to Buildertrend for approval
    • Certify/Stamp Drawings
  • Communications
    • Coordinate with the structural engineer when the project requires
    • Interface with multiple team members/departments throughout the project development
    • Participate in design review meetings with customers as requested by Project Advisor
    • Engage in pre-contract out huddles, project lift-off meetings, and after-project reviews
    • Attend weekly department meetings and individual bi-weekly check-ins with the manager
  • Procedures & Processes
    • Follow standard operating procedures to complete assigned tasks
    • Meet required task deadlines
    • Track project progress in Monday.com

Required Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the residential design industry
  • Possess an architectural degree (bachelor’s or higher)
  • Current Registered Architect in Pennsylvania (additional states are a plus)
  • Working knowledge of 3D modeling and rendering in Chief Architect Premier X14 (preferred)
  • Experience designing residential kitchens, baths, and additions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (especially Outlook, Teams, and OneDrive)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally, in writing, and virtually via Teams
  • Knowledge of Monday.com and Buildertrend is a plus
