About the Diverse Architectural Styles in Devon
Devon has an interesting history, which you’ll see reflected in the area’s architectural styles. The small community began as the site of the Devon Inn — an upscale hotel built as an escape for city dwellers. The beautiful Victorian structure remained in Devon from 1883 until it burnt down in 1929. A decade later, developers built 52 simple, colonial-style homes on the land where the hotel once stood.
Devon and its nearby communities also feature many homes built after World War II to accommodate a housing boom. These mid-20th century homes reflect various styles, from Cape Cod to ranches. They were built quickly to meet the housing demand and may not have the layouts or personalization many of today’s homeowners desire.
