About the Architectural Styles of Paoli, PA
Like many towns along the Main Line, Paoli has been around for quite some time. Paoli began as the site of the Paoli Inn, which was built in 1769 and named after General Pasquale Paoli. Slowly but surely Paoli grew, with the railroad bringing growth to the town during the 19th century. But since Paoli didn’t have industry like nearby towns, it wasn’t until the 20th century and the invention of the automobile that Paoli began to bloom more rapidly.
Paoli’s homes reflect its unique past, and you’ll find all kinds of historic architectural styles in the area, including stately Georgian and unique shingle-style houses. You’ll also see many houses from the early and mid-20th century built to accommodate a greater demand for suburban housing. Popular architectural styles during the 20th century throughout Chester County include Craftsman, Dutch Colonial Revival, ranch and split-level style homes.
