Instagram Inspiration for Interior Design

A picture is worth a thousand words—at least. This is especially true when it comes to interior design. Imagine trying to explain to your designer every last detail of your idea of a perfect bathroom or kitchen. It would take you a long time, to say the least. On the other hand, show your designer a few pictures that you like, and she gets your style right away.

Where do you get those inspirational pictures that compress your appointment with a designer? Instagram, of course. Before you get overwhelmed with the number of accounts you could follow, check out COCOON’s 10 faves.

These Instagrammers highlight everything from their process to their favorite products all while giving much-deserved shout-outs to some of their favorite designs and designers. You’ll find simple spaces, textured tones, and colorful surprises.

#10 @thegritandpolish

Love old homes? You’ll love the old-home makeovers by Washington-natives Garret and Cathy. Renovating homes for rentals is their job, and you get to see the finished products. Currently living in a 1912 farmhouse, they have chosen to highlight the original woodwork.

The white walls of their master bedroom are a simple backdrop to the chestnut-colored window frames. They are simply complemented by matching nightstands and a dresser. The period-appropriate brass curtain rods and lamps add subtle shine to this cozy room.

#9 @katepearcevintage

For bolder inspiration, check out Kate Pearce Vintage. Combining antique finds with eye-popping patterns and lush colors, this art history major combines past and present in beautifully eclectic ways. Even if you’re not boho at heart, you can easily find playful pieces to incorporate into any subdued style.

There’s a lot to take in with this fun and funky kitchen. No matter what your style, you can probably find something to love here. From the classic, white Shaker drawers and herringbone hardwood, to the cobalt stove and pumpkin-colored barstools, there’s something for everybody. Plus, you just have to marvel at the way Kate puts it all together.

#8 @jennasuedesign

As an artist, Jenna Sue created and sold prints through her own Etsy shop before branching out into interior design. As you’ll see with the transformation of her own home on Instagram, her design sensibilities certainly did not stop with paper. Her serene home images invite you to imagine just how dreamy your own home could be.

The tone-on-tone sky blue tiles steal the show in this bathroom, while the crisp white walls and white stone floor provide a clean backdrop. The brass adds a vintage pop to this cool bathroom.

#7 @jeanstofferdesign

If you’re looking for an Instagram account dedicated to a broad design portfolio, you can stop right here. While Stoffer’s Instagram includes some personal details, such design-focused photos of European vacations, it focuses mainly on her work. And in the words of lifestyle guru Martha Stewart, “It’s a good thing.” Mixing trends with traditional and modern influences, she dishes out some delightful designs.

Check out the ensuite of this garage-turned-bedroom. The brass hardware and dark wood tones are more traditional than trendy. However, the bright walls, hexagon mirrors, and herringbone tiles, all in complementary tones, lend a modern touch.

Log cabins may be more synonymous with a sawmill than a bright and airy home. Not so here. Strategically placed white paint brightens the space without hiding the rustic aesthetic.

#6 @marieflaniganinteriors

From clean lines and neutral hues to bold colors and flowery wallpaper, Marie Flanigan Interiors spans the spectrum of style. You can find something that reflects your taste, and maybe even something that you didn’t know you liked until you look here.

Here’s a design surprise. Who knew a teal wall and a velvet, avocado couch could be so stunning?

You don’t have to go white for a bright kitchen. The tan cabinets and alabaster floor reflect all the light pouring in from the expansive window.

#5 @katemarkerinteriors

If your dream room is awash in white, you will be hard-pressed to find better inspiration for your rooms than the designs of Kate Marker. The monochromatic palette of many of her heavenly rooms highlights the textures in the wood trim, cabinets, furniture, and textiles.

Who knew a white kitchen could be rustic? Apparently, Marker did. With a white, paneled backdrop, washed wood cabinets and beams combine with a well-worn island to give this cottage kitchen its relaxed, retreat vibe.

#4 @chrislovesjulia

And you will love Chris loves Julia. Punctuated with playful pics of the couple and the requisite feet photos, their Insta account is adorable and drool worthy. Their design blends nuanced textures and soft palettes with deep, dramatic tones.

The leather, tufted sofa coupled with the pine-needle colored wall creates a classic look. The soft wood tones and white accents, on the other hand, brighten this moody space.

#3 @amberinteriors

For a laid-back California vibe, look no further than Amber Lewis’ Instagram. Amber keeps it casual and neutral, and most importantly, comfy. You’ll find lots of airy spaces and natural accents. Highlights are on wood and white, with the occasionally dramatically black accessories or dark walls.

It would be easy to hunker down with a good book or just take an afternoon nap in this cozy, yet sophisticated living room. Linen slipcovered sofas keep this room comfortable, while the coiffured ceiling and soaring curtains refine the room.

The clean lines in this lake-house bedroom certainly embody a modern aesthetic, but the earthy tones are still traditional lake-house style. Plus, an ample amount of pillow and blankets provide the perfect place to curl up and get cozy.
